How does it work?
Even the most accurate NH3 application monitoring equipment masks the knife-to-knife application errors that your system may have. Recent studies have shown errors as high as 300% between knifes. Testing by Iowa State University and PGI International shows that increasing manifold pressure reduces knife-to-knife application errors. Manifold pressure for conventional manifolds is a function of the flow rate and tank pressure. At low tank pressures and low application rates, the manifold pressure is lower and the knife-to-knife errors are worse. Higher tank pressures and higher flow rates will produce a higher manifold pressure and reduced knife-to-knife errors. The only way to increase the manifold pressure is to either increase the tank pressure, or increase the flow rate – but these options are usually not available. Only Equa-Flow
allows the operator to adjust the manifold orifices to obtain the maximum manifold pressure for any tank pressure and any application rate resulting in the lowest possible knife-to-knife errors. Replacing the 90E fitting normally used on the manifold inlet with a straight section allows the ammonia to obtain a more laminar flow before entering the precision orifices. Testing shows that this too helps reduce errors. Equa-Flow is simple to install and operate and insures that each row is getting the same amount of anhydrous ammonia.
How good is it?
Other systems brag about 15% - 20% maximum knife-to-knife variation and a 4% - 5% coefficient of variation and that’s not under low tank pressure and low flow conditions.
Now here is the good news... Equa-Flow can deliver 9.5% maximum knife-to-knife variation and 2.7% coefficient of variation and it can do that at 50 psi tank pressure and 75 pounds N per acre. That’s amazing!!!
How do I configure it for a given application?
The 1" A1801 has tremendous application flexibility. It has 21 ports which can be plugged down to a fewer number of ports as long as the plugging is reasonably symmetrical. The performance is not affected. Because the control ports are actually long slots, a high back pressure can be set relative to tank pressure REGARDLESS of whether you are distributing 75 or 250 lbs of NH3 per acre. If more than one Equa-Flow is needed on your toolbar, simply add an Equa-Flow 2 or 3 way splitter and adjust each manifold to the same setting so the back pressures are equal. A custom
ring is NOT needed for each application.
