How does it work?
Eventhe most accurate NH3 application monitoring equipment masks theknife-to-knife application errors that your system may have. Recentstudies have shown errors as high as 300% between knifes. Testing byIowa State University and PGI International shows that increasingmanifold pressure reduces knife-to-knife application errors. Manifoldpressure for conventional manifolds is a function of the flow rate andtank pressure. At low tank pressures and low application rates, themanifold pressure is lower and the knife-to-knife errors are worse.Higher tank pressures and higher flow rates will produce a highermanifold pressure and reduced knife-to-knife errors. The only way toincrease the manifold pressure is to either increase the tank pressure,or increase the flow rate – but these options are usually notavailable. Only Equa-Flow
allows the operator to adjust the manifoldorifices to obtain the maximum manifold pressure for any tank pressureand any application rate resulting in the lowest possibleknife-to-knife errors. Replacing the 90E fitting normally used on themanifold inlet with a straight section allows the ammonia to obtain amore laminar flow before entering the precision orifices. Testing showsthat this too helps reduce errors. Equa-Flow is simple to install andoperate and insures that each row is getting the same amount ofanhydrous ammonia.
How good is it?
Othersystems brag about 15% - 20% maximum knife-to-knife variation and a 4%- 5% coefficient of variation and that’s not under low tank pressureand low flow conditions.
Now here is the good news... Equa-Flow candeliver 9.5% maximum knife-to-knife variation and 2.7% coefficient ofvariation and it can do that at 50 psi tank pressure and 75 pounds Nper acre. That’s amazing!!!
How do I configure it for a given application?
The1" A1801 has tremendous application flexibility. It has 21 ports whichcan be plugged down to a fewer number of ports as long as the pluggingis reasonably symmetrical. The performance is not affected. Because thecontrol ports are actually long slots, a high back pressure can be setrelative to tank pressure REGARDLESS of whether you are distributing 75or 250 lbs of NH3 per acre. If more than one Equa-Flow is needed onyour toolbar, simply add an Equa-Flow 2 or 3 way splitter and adjusteach manifold to the same setting so the back pressures are equal. Acustom
